Triolet
In A Nutshell
Sharpen up your maths skills with Triolet. The rules are simple, but the gameplay is surprisingly tactical and engaging. Get three tiles from the bag and put them on your rack. You can then place 1,2 or 3 tiles on the board together 'crossword' style to score points. No more than three tiles are allowed in a row together, and three tiles together must add up to 15, two tiles together can be 15 or less.
You score face value of the additions, you can score in both directions, and if you place the third tile you make a 'trio' and get a bonus of 15 points. There is also a bonus for getting rid of all three tiles in one go - this is a 'Triolet'. Replenish your rack with tiles from the bag..... The little number on the tile tells you how many of each number tile is in the bag, and you can get double points, triple points and another go [the bis square] if you can place a tile on the right squares. When you make a 'trio' you double the bonus as well - so it's all about making the three-in-a-row 15's to score the big points. You could score 90 points just by playing the '0' tile!
Because you have to keep a look out in two dimensions, the game keeps your attention and helps your addition, plus there are no arguments, as it either adds up to 15 or it doesn't. This is a great game to play over a bottle of wine, or with the grandkids. Triolet was 'highly recommended' at this years' UK Good Toy Guide Awards.
They Say
"Triolet {pronounced 'tree-oh-lay'}, won the Golden Ace for the Best Indoor Game '96 at The International Festival of Games in Cannes. It's easy to learn and fun to play, with the object to make three tiles in a row add up to 15. It's Scrabble®, but with numbers. "
