Cirondo

In A Nutshell

Played on a circular board, with 36 pieces each, the aim is to eliminate the opposition by removing all their pieces from the board. You get three types of piece only [moons, planets and solar systems] and, like chess, the pieces have their own specific ways of capturing the opposition pieces.

Each player has 16 'Moons' which can only be moved directly forward, towards the centre of the board known as 'the void', one space. When a Moon takes an opponents piece, it can move one space diagonally in either direction towards the void. When a Moon reaches the innermost circle it is upgraded to a 'Solar System' piece. There are a maximum of 4 'Solar System' pieces per player, and they can move any number of spaces in any one direction. You also have 16 'Planet' pieces - a Planet can only move diagonally along the arcs on the board, but it can move as many spaces along the arcs, in either direction, as you like. If an opponents piece is in its path it can stop on any space before it or land on the same space to capture the piece and remove it from the board.

Cirondo won Silver in the game section of the UK Good Toy Guide Awards 2005, and you can try it out by playing online. This game has quality components, and is for serious strategy game fans.
